Day 61: Friends Forever

It is so strange to be keeping up with our countdown while we’re on the road!  Yes, we have 61 days left in Italy, but we’re in The Netherlands now, so I’ve put that reality out of my mind for at least the next week.  We had a great weekend in the Lausanne area of Switzerland, and experienced a good many things while we were there, which you can see from the last two days of our countdown.  Probably the greatest thing that we did, however, was to spend time with my friend Allison, who I haven’t seen since our wedding almost two years ago, and her sister Jenni, who I haven’t seen since her engagement party 8 years ago!

Having this less-than-mainstream expat life makes it difficult to keep up with everyone, everywhere.  The best thing that we’re able to do is communicate as often as possible (usually electronically), snatch little moments here and there, and pick up where we left off.  The last one is key, picking up where we left off.  I feel very blessed to have a lot of friends with whom I can do this, but I understand that it’s not always the easiest thing to do.  When Allison wrote to me and asked if we wanted to meet them in Switzerland, we were glad to plan for a trip, but when we actually got to Switzerland, we were super happy to have a mini vacation AND the opportunity to catch up with friends.

So we dedicate our Day 61 to Allison, Jenni, and to picking up where we’ve left off, and the hope of picking up with other friends here in The Netherlands this week.
